Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism
Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism

The Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, is a voluntary, non profit making organisation with over seventy members. The aim is to enhance the village's unique community spirit and to develop tourism through the provision of events, to give a village for all seasons. All members of the community are encouraged to join in with the planning and implementation of these events, and new members and new ideas are always welcome.
In addition to this website, the Chamber also publishes the "Scene". This year's edition has a new look for which we thank all our photographers and contributors. We hope that you will find it as useful and informative and that it continues to be as popular with residents and visitors alike.
The "Scene" is a forum for your ideas and input, that reaches print because the members of the Chamber want to promote this beautiful village of Saundersfoot, for the benefit of both residents and visitors. Only the Chamber members are able to advertise in the Scene ensuring that every contributor is committed to the promotion of Saundersfoot to ensure its vibrant spirit is maintained and enhanced.

ST. DAVID'S DAY CELEBRATIONS and the CAWL COOKING CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD AND ELSEWHERE
by kind permission of the Saundersfoot Harbour Commission, More than 250 people enjoyed tasting their way around the village on St. David's Day 1st March to judge the 5th annual Cawl Cooking Championship of the World and Elsewhere. The first champions in 2004 were The Royal Oak but for the past three years, Sue and Paul Lewis from the Silver Strand Jewellers and Tearoom have held the title. Eight restaurants took up the challenge for 2008, the Marina, the Mermaid, the Hean Castle, the Royal Oak, the Captain's Table, the Silver Strand Jewellers and Tearoom, the Old Chemist Inn and The Sailing Club.

Voting sheets and special commemorative sampling mugs were obtained for £3 from the Chamber Stall in the Marquee on the harbour

There was plenty of rivalry among the contestants who each cook the cawl to their own closely guarded secret recipes which are then provided as free samples to all those embarking on the "Cawl Trail" around the village in return for their votes and comments.

The final result gave us new champions, Dai and Mandy Lawrence from the Old Chemist Inn.

Runners up were Paul and Sue Lewis from the Silver Strand Jewellers and Tearoom and in third place were Ian and Ellie Griffiths from the Captain's Table. Welsh food, craft and culture were in abundance and the Primary School children produced a six foot tall model bunch of daffodils and entered a poster competition, the winners being Annie Batten and Zac Bull.

On Sunday chef Mel Thomas gave cookery demonstrations throughout the day using fresh local Pembrokeshire Produce for the audience to sample. Saundersfoot is the place to be for St. David's Day Celebrations.
